A CHEF’s COMPETITION ON THE ISLAND OF BORNHOLM, DENMARK
Since 2009, the idyllic waterfront in Gudhjem, Bornholm, will be a heaven for connoisseurs, foodies, people interested in food. With their own eyes, they can watch how the countries’ best chef’s affectionately handles locally produced ingredients from Bornholm and from other places in Denmark.
The chef’s competition was launched in 2009 on the waterfront of Gudhjem with the participation of Denmark’s best chefs. A star-studded panel of experts consisting of chefs and experts from some of Denmark’s most outstanding restaurants weighed, measured, tasted and assessed. All this to bring local products into focus. The chef’s competition has ever since been a annual event on Bornholm and has indeed become the biggest competition in Denmark.

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
In a festive weekend in June, the water front will be transformed into one huge kitchen and food market. The chef’s will be up against time in order to transform local products into the perfect courses. The audience will be able – at close range – to observe and ask questions about details, techniques and the thoughts behind the various courses.
With a direct view to every detail in the chef’s preparation, it is possible to experience how chefs of the absolute world elite manage to create the courses.
Promote knowledge of local products.
Create opportunity for people to see and meet the best chefs in the country.
Promote interest for healthy and tasty food.
Promote interest for gourmet food.
Create synergies between Danish elite gourmet and local communities.
RISING MEDIA ATTENTION
The interest from spectators, the local community, producers, media and sponsors has been rising every year culminating in 2015 when the event was broadcasted live on Danish national televion, TV2 Danmark. In 2019, approx. 10.000 people visited the waterfront in Gudhjem.
THE IMPORTANCE OF LOCAL CONTRIBUTION
The rising attention from the media and the population have led to Danish locally produced products being used in Michelin and other renowned restaurants in Denmark. Today, many local producers involved in Sol over Gudhjem are regular suppliers to a large number of restaurants in Denmark. In addition, Sol over Gudhjem is now recognized as one of the main turist events on Bornholm each year.
